This book is a collection of photographs taken during my half-year stay in Alfama district. Not only did I capture the physical elements but also humanity, signs of life, humor hidden in the dark, and the relationship among them. Conjointly, this work is an irreplaceable record of my life in this historic district on the slope.

訳あって、災厄から生きられたこのまちに半年間居ることになった。なんでも、不動産の多くは２００年前だし、賃料は凍結しているし、床一つあたり一つの火災があるっていわれている。これで首都なんだからたまったもんじゃない。毒々しいまでの雰囲気に魅了され、わたしは撮影に取りつかれた。ここで見つめていたのは、謎めいた日々や人間観であり、過ぎ去った後のユーモラスであり、後ろめたい都市の闇である。私がエンカウントした、かけがえのない世界の記録。
